Rihanna: From Music to Fashion Mogul and Philanthropist
Robyn Rihanna Fenty, known simply as Rihanna, is a Barbadian singer, actress, fashion designer, and businesswoman. Born on February 20th, 1988 in Saint Michael Parish in Barbados, Rihanna has become one of the biggest names in the music industry since her debut album “Music of the Sun” was released in 2005.
Rihanna’s musical career started at age 15 when she was discovered by record producer Evan Rogers while he was vacationing on the island with his wife. Impressed by her vocals and charisma during their impromptu audition meeting, Rogers invited her to his New York City studio to record some demo tapes. Those demos eventually led to a recording contract with Def Jam Records.
Rihanna’s first single “Pon de Replay,” from her debut album “Music of the Sun,” became an instant hit and reached number two on Billboard Hot 100 chart. She followed up with several more successful albums such as “A Girl Like Me,” “Good Girl Gone Bad,” and “Loud.” To date, Rihanna has sold over 250 million records worldwide which makes her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Apart from being an accomplished musician and performer, Rihanna is also a well-known philanthropist who uses her platform for social good. In 2012 she founded The Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) named after her grandparents Clara and Lionel Braithwaite which supports education initiatives around the world along with disaster relief programs for those affected by natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes.
In addition to that CLF also helps fund global health care initiatives focused on cancer treatment through its partnership with Harvard University’s Global Health Institute.
Moreover,
As a fashion icon
Another area where Rihanna has been making waves is in fashion design. She launched her own clothing line called Fenty Puma in 2016 in collaboration with the sportswear brand Puma. The collection was an instant success and received critical acclaim for its unique designs that combined streetwear and high fashion.
Rihanna’s fashion sense has always been admired, and she has been featured on the cover of numerous fashion magazines including Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and InStyle. In 2019 Rihanna launched a new luxury clothing line called Fenty under LVMH which made her the first black woman to lead a luxury fashion house.
Finally,
As a businesswoman
With all her successes in music, philanthropy, and fashion design it is no surprise that Rihanna is also a savvy businesswoman. She has invested in several startups such as tech company Bitmoji creator Snap Inc., food delivery service Postmates, and online styling service provider DAILYLOOK among others.
In addition to these investments Rihanna owns several businesses herself such as Savage X Fenty lingerie line which she launched in 2018 along with Fenty Beauty cosmetics which she founded in 2017. Both ventures have been extremely successful with Fenty Beauty becoming one of the fastest-growing makeup brands ever reaching $600 million revenue within its first year.
Wrapping up,
Despite facing challenges throughout her life like domestic violence from former partner Chris Brown or losing family members to cancer during her teenage years Rihanna has persevered through it all. With her talent, hard work ethic coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit she continues to inspire people around the world today not just through her music but also through her impact on social issues and innovation industries such as beauty or fashion.
