Katy Perry is one of the biggest pop stars in the world today. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has won numerous awards, including five American Music Awards, fourteen People’s Choice Awards, and a Brit Award. Her music is enjoyed by millions of fans around the globe, and her unique style and personality have made her an icon for many.

Early Life

Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. She grew up in a religious family with two siblings and began singing at church at a young age. Her parents were both pastors, which influenced Katy’s early life greatly.

At age nine, Katy started taking vocal lessons from local opera singers. At thirteen years old she wrote her first song “I Will Love You”, which became part of her debut album “Katy Hudson”. Despite receiving critical acclaim for her Christian music album as Katy Hudson it failed commercially.

Career Beginnings

After graduating high school in 2003 Katy moved to Los Angeles to further pursue music under the name “Katy Perry”. In Los Angeles she had to make ends meet by performing odd jobs such as working as a backup singer for other artists or doing voiceovers for commercials.

In 2007 she signed with Capitol Records where they released “Ur So Gay” which gained some attention but not much commercial success however this set up the release of “I Kissed A Girl” later that year which would become an international hit selling more than four million copies worldwide and becoming number-one in several countries charts.

Rise to Fame

Her career took off after the release of “I Kissed A Girl” followed up by another successful single “Hot N Cold”. These singles led up to her debut album “One Of The Boys” being released in June 2008 debuting at number nine on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album produced several other successful singles like “Waking Up In Vegas” and “Thinking Of You”.

In 2010 Katy Perry released her second studio album “Teenage Dream”. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It included hit singles such as “California Gurls,” “Firework,” and “E.T.” which helped cement her status as a pop icon.

Katy Perry’s third studio album, Prism, was released in 2013. The album featured hit singles like “Roar” and “Dark Horse”, which became Katy’s biggest-selling single to date. Prism debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was critically acclaimed.

Personal Life

Katy Perry has been an open book when it comes to her personal life, often referencing past relationships in lyrics or interviews. She dated singer John Mayer from 2012 to 2014, Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom from early-2016 until March of that year before reconciling with him again in January of 2018 before marrying him later that year October of that same year they welcomed their first child together Daisy Dove Bloom.

She has also been known for her activism work being a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since December of 2013 where she advocates for children’s rights around the world but more specifically because of her support for education programs especially those aimed towards girls.
