DIY Yurts: How to Build Your Own Unique Outdoor Getaway

As a lover of travel, I have always been intrigued by the idea of yurts. These unique structures offer an immersive outdoor experience while providing protection from the elements. However, many travelers are put off by the high cost of renting them or purchasing pre-built models. That’s why I decided to take matters into my own hands and build my own DIY yurt.

The process was surprisingly straightforward and affordable. The first step was to research different yurt designs online and decide on a plan that suited my needs. There were plenty of free plans available, but I ultimately settled on one that required minimal materials and could be completed in just a few days.

Next, I sourced all the necessary materials from local hardware stores and online retailers. This included wood for the frame, canvas for the walls and roof, insulation for warmth, and various tools like hammers, saws, and drills.

Building the yurt itself was a fun challenge that required some patience and problem-solving skills. The most difficult part was constructing the circular frame using wooden poles cut to size with angled ends so they fit together snugly without any gaps.

Once we had erected our frame securely into place we proceeded to wrap it in beautiful white canvas which would form both our walls as well as our roof covering – ensuring protection against rain showers!

We then added insulation between layers of canvas for warmth during cooler nights before adding windows made out of clear plastic sheeting which provided us with natural light during daylight hours whilst keeping insects at bay throughout summer evenings spent star gazing inside our cosy abode!

In total we spent around $1-2k on all materials including furnishings such as rugs & cushions plus other finishing touches such as solar-powered lighting fixtures – all items aimed towards making our new home away from home feel complete!

Overall building your own DIY yurt is not only cheaper than buying or renting pre-made models but also provides you with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Plus, with a bit of creativity, you can customize your yurt to fit your own unique style and preferences making it truly one-of-a-kind. So why not give it a try?
