When you think of John Legend, the first thing that comes to mind is his soulful music and enchanting voice. But did you know that he’s also an avid traveler and enjoys exploring new destinations? We had the chance to catch up with him recently to talk about his travel experiences, tips for traveling on a budget, and his favorite luxury hotels.
Q: John, what sparked your love of travel?
A: I’ve always loved visiting new places and experiencing different cultures. Growing up in Ohio, my family didn’t have the means to take extravagant vacations but we would take road trips to nearby states or visit family in other parts of the country. As I started touring as a musician, I fell in love with traveling even more – getting to see so many different cities around the world has been an incredible experience.
Q: What are some of your favorite destinations?
A: My wife Chrissy Teigen and I absolutely love Italy. It’s one of our go-to spots whenever we need a break from work. We’ve also enjoyed spending time in Bali – it’s such a beautiful place with stunning scenery and amazing food. And closer to home, we love taking trips out west – places like Montana or Wyoming where we can disconnect and enjoy nature.
Q: Do you have any tips for travelers looking to save money while still enjoying luxury experiences?
A: Absolutely! One thing we do when planning our trips is look for package deals that include flights and hotel stays – this can often be cheaper than booking separately. We also like using credit card rewards points for flights or hotel stays when possible. Another tip is if you’re staying at a luxury hotel, try going during off-peak times when rates may be lower.
Q: Speaking of luxury hotels, what are some of your favorites?
A: Oh man there are so many great ones out there! In New York City, The Greenwich Hotel is one of our absolute favorites. We also love the Aman resorts – they have properties all over the world and each one is unique and stunning. And for a beach vacation, we recently stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and it was incredible.
Q: Finally, what’s next on your travel bucket list?
A: Chrissy and I have been talking about going to Japan for a while now – we’re both fascinated with the culture and food there. We’d also love to explore more of Africa – we’ve only been to South Africa so far but would love to visit other countries like Tanzania or Kenya.
